There is nothing like curling up near a cozy fireplace in the winter or laying on a beautiful veranda or deck watching the sunset reading one of these books.

Sidney Poitier and Diahann Carroll in the movie Paris Blues. It is such a great movie although United Artists studio altered Harold Flender’s novel which the movie is based off of. They changed the interracial romance plot of the movie.

Dare we say the music is absolutely fantastic with Louis Armstrong!

Nancy Kwan

Nancy Kwan was and is considered Asia’s first global superstar in Hollywood. The World of Suzie Wong made her an international star and established her as a leading lady in Hollywood. Her performance as Suzie Wong made her an international sensation and broke ground for other Asian actors/actresses in Hollywood.

We actually own the 1st edition book of The World of Suzie Wong by Richard Mason as well as his letters regarding writing the book before and after it was published while he was living in Hong Kong!

Juanita Hall

We will be spotlighting some of our all time favorite movies with Nancy Kwan including The World of Suzie Wong and The Flower Drum Song. Did you know that the beautiful Juanita Hall who played in the film The Flower Drum Song with Kwan was actually a biracial African American woman who portrayed an Asian American? That has really never been done or talked about much in the world of cinema.

She was also the first African American woman to win a Tony award for South Pacific as best supporting actress for her portrayal as Bloody Mary.
